GLMワークショップ 開催レポート

Activity Record 2023.09.03 19:12

The first GLM workshop was held on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023!

This time, we welcomed Ruri from the brand "Sakeoji Ruzanto", a very popular brand for its classic style lolita fashion items, and gave a lecture on how to make classic head dresses.

Handmade lolita fashion items with lots of frills and lace require a lot of tricks, so many people find it a high hurdle to start by imitating them.

We have been warming up a project that will turn everyone into a "workshop" to help you overcome this hurdle.

This workshop was launched with the hope that it will encourage as many people as possible, such as those who are taking on Lolita for the first time, those who want to become more of a Lolita-like Lolita, and those who are looking for a Lolita-like artist, and those who are the first to be born into a Lolita item artist.

▲NewMake Labo

This time's venue is in Harajuku

This event was held at NewMake Labo, a facility that upcycles clothes and miscellaneous goods.

This facility is designed to provide an opportunity to upcycle clothing and miscellaneous goods that are normally provided by domestic and international brands, and to solve the problems of clothing loss. Equipment and materials such as sewing machines, printers, sewing tools, and materials available to community members are free to use.

It seems that workshops have been held several times before, but this is the first time this year's course is specializing in genres, such as the head dress!

--The day before

▲The preparations were completed the day before

We will finalize the final check to see if the selected materials are included, such as setting threads on the sewing machine used by participants and performing trial sewing.

The pattern for the headdress is the ultimate size and shape that the instructor, Ruri, has created prototypes over and over again!

I'm excited to think that tomorrow, participants will be wearing a three-dimensional head dress.

--The day

▲Harajuku on the morning of the day

The weather is sunny! Although September has arrived, Harajuku is still in the summer heat, with a maximum temperature of 35 degrees.

This workshop will be held in 2 hours x 3 panels.

We also held a demonstration before the event was held, but the first panel with customers was exciting.

When participants gathered, they were surprised to see that they range from teens to 50s, regardless of gender!

I was very happy to see some of the students who participated with their classmates at school, those who were asked by their daughters, and those who came from far away.

▲ Headdress making kit that can be distributed to participants

When the time comes, I'll start by explaining the contents of this kit.

In addition to the ingredients from this time, the kit also includes a very easy-to-understand instructions for making it with photos, and a pattern for making your own after the course (can be used for commercial purposes)!

Many people have not touched the sewing machine for a long time, so we also gave a lecture on how to operate the sewing machine.

This time, we hope that people will try making small items casually, so we will continue to use fabric glue to install temporary fasteners and motifs.

The instructors will always be visiting and teach you how to make the perfect finish and tips for each individual.

With moderate conversations, everyone really worked silently and I was surprised at how quickly they proceeded faster than expected!

The biggest challenge this time was gathering and sewing the lace! However, since this is an essential process for Lolita items, I explained it carefully.

Even participants who were unable to gather at first due to unfamiliar tasks, were getting much faster by the time they finished gathering!

When I gather the lace, I feel excited as I finally get closer to the finished product.♪

When sewing the gathered lace, you have to sew together in a good position with the foundation, and proceed with conscious effort to prevent the lace from falling over, so many people struggle.

However, everyone was persistent in making things, going back to the parts that were not sewn, sewing and hand-sewn.

Once you've got a gathered lace, you'll be ready to take a break!

Finally, remove any unnecessary threads and attach the motif to complete the process.

Although the kit contents are the same, the individuals are made very carefully according to the sample, those who use the positions where the lace is attached to give a different impression than the sample, and those who use the scrap materials provided by New Make Labo to create a more unique style, these are the charms of each.

At first, people were worried that they might be fine as they touch the sewing machine, but at the end we were happy to see them looking at the head dress with a smile and smiling, "I could have made it myself!"

▲Customers who come in a coordination that matches the head dress

Some of the customers came to the outfits that matched the head dresses they made on the day!

In the survey after the workshop,

"At first, I was worried that I wouldn't use it even if I made it because it was different from the Lolita I was visiting, but when I tried it, I was able to create a work that I really liked, perhaps because of my love!"

"It was so much fun! I applied because I wanted to have experience in creating something myself. I'd like to try making a variety of different kinds of things from now on."

We received some nice comments such as: Through this workshop, there have been more options for "making your own Lolita items," and I sincerely hope that we have held this event.

We will continue to invite a variety of instructors to hold workshops to create Lolita items, so please look forward to the continued news!
